A Story About Evanston - one of our most playful designs!

Welcome to our Evanston Project! One of our very few projects where “Modern Farmhouse” wasn’t the go-to style! This client wanted character, colour, spunky-ness, and something completely unique to her and her style only. This is their Forever Home, and though it was a newer build, it lacked character (as most new builds do), so we went to work with quite a fun to-do list!

After reviewing this clients New Client Questionnaire, I knew this client and I would vibe well. I do tend to love more spunky character when it comes to interior design, so connecting with these clients who had a similar style, I couldn’t help but be excited! She was sending me inspirational images that had wall and ceiling paint stripes, coloured doors, unique tile designs, all design details that I hadn’t had a chance to do for any other client. Queue the excitement!

So, what did we all do for this client?

Full Service Design for the Dining Room, Living Room, Foyer, Powder Room, and Overall Decorating of the main floor.

In addition to having a unique style, this client has an abundant of artwork and decorative items they had picked up throughout their travels - so when it came to the final styling of the space, we didn’t buy any decorative accessories for this client! No homesense shop for staging, everything you see belonged to our clients.

BIG CHANGES

Flooring - we ripped out all the builder beige tile that was in the front of the house and around the fireplace, and replaced the front entry with a super playful and fun hexagon pattern, and the fireplace with a black herringbone (LOVE).

We also sanded and refinished the hardwood floor. It was that go-to-builder delightful dark espresso brown… so that had to go!

WALL FEATURES

The dining room wall was a unique and subtle detail that added dimension and depth, without being too loud and bold.

The living room feature wall composed of two colours - blue and yellow. Yellow being the clients favourite colour, and the blue pulled from the incredible area rug we sourced for the dining room.

To balance out these design features we added a subtle black and white geometric pattern in the form of draperies and valances to bring in another layer of texture.

LIGHT FIXTURES

The black sputnik light fixtures really brought in a big impact when you walked in… repeating the same light fixture and hanging and different lengths made the most sense in this space! The lights aren’t competing with each other, but are complimenting each other, while adding a bold statement to the overall space.

Her favourite colour was YELLOW - so you can see that we’ve splashed yellow in a few different areas! One of the best colours to compliment yellow is naturally blue, and if you know us, we LOVE blue, so adding that pop of turquoise was incredibly obvious for this home.

Here is your reminder that when renovating and decorating your home, don’t worry about what everyone else is doing. Do to your home what makes YOU happy! This is your sanctuary, not ours, and investing in a beautiful space that you love will pay off every minute you’re in your house. Promise <3

1. Authenticity Over Imitation

Choosing to invest in your personal style means embracing authenticity over imitation. Trends often encourage conformity, turning homes into cookie-cutter replicas of the latest magazine spreads. When you infuse your space with elements that resonate with your personality, each corner becomes a testament to your individuality, making your home a genuine expression of self.

2. A Timeless Tale

Trends have a shelf life – what's hot today might be passé tomorrow. Investing in your personal style, on the other hand, weaves a timeless tale. By curating a space that speaks to your tastes, values, and experiences, you create a home that remains relevant regardless of the passing design fads. Your living room won't be a time capsule of a particular year; instead, it becomes a narrative that evolves with you.

3. Comfort is Key

While trends may prioritize aesthetics, personal style places comfort at the forefront. Your home should be a haven, a place where you can unwind and truly be yourself. Investing in your personal style allows you to prioritize furniture, colors, and layouts that cater to your comfort and lifestyle, making your space not just visually appealing but also genuinely livable.

4. Sustainability in Style

Trends often fuel a culture of disposability, urging homeowners to constantly update their interiors to stay on trend. Investing in your personal style leans towards a more sustainable approach. Quality pieces that align with your taste are likely to withstand the test of time, reducing the environmental impact of constant redecoration and fostering a mindset of conscious consumerism.

5. A Creative Canvas

Your home is your canvas, and investing in personal style allows you to be the artist. Rather than adhering to someone else's vision, you have the freedom to experiment, blend styles, and create a space that resonates with your aesthetic sensibilities. It's about celebrating the joy of self-expression and allowing your home to be a manifestation of your creativity.

6. Emotional Resonance

A home curated with personal style is not just a collection of furniture and decor; it's a repository of memories and emotions. Every piece holds sentimental value, and each room tells a story. This emotional resonance is something that transcends the fleeting excitement of following trends, creating a more profound connection between you and your living space.

In conclusion, the decision to invest in your personal style is an investment in authenticity, timelessness, comfort, sustainability, creativity, and emotional resonance. It's about crafting a home that is not just a reflection of current design preferences but a sanctuary that evolves with you, echoing the chapters of your life. So, let your home be a testament to your unique style, a timeless sanctuary that welcomes you with open arms every day.
