Our Basic Design Package - A Great Way to Jump Start Your Renovation!

I wanted to share a Design Concept Package that we came up with for a lovely client and her family who reside on a beautiful property just west of Sundre, AB. This client's home has the perfect Rocky Mountain views, lush trees, energetic dogs, and wildlife who come right up to their front door and peer on into the house. It is true country living! Check out this photo I quickly snapped from my car when I first drove onto the property. This is their everyday view. I could definitely have my morning, afternoon, and evening coffee (really all day coffee) enjoying that!

This client and I connected through Facebook and she expressed she was needing a design concept put together for her space. She was no stranger to renovations, having tackled them in her previous home, and already had a contractor lined up for this project. She has a great eye for style, decisive about what she likes (yay!), but, as the majority of our clients, was at a loss on how to bring her vision together.

She booked an In-Home Consultation ( see blog entry, "Scheduling a Design Consultation - Nothing to Lose! Promise."), gave us a tour of her home, and shared images and pinterest boards for what her ideal style for this home would be. She also took the time to fill out our Design Consultation Questionnaire, which is a crucial and extremely helpful tool for the client and for us to review.

Following our meeting, I took all my notes (mental and written) and photos, and put together a design concept quote for this client. This quote laid out each and every space the client was needing selections for, and listed what ME Design would be including in that price. This way, our clients know exactly what they are receiving for the price that is quoted. Once the client approved the quote and sent the deposit, we happily and excitedly started to put together a Design Concept Package for this project.

These packages generally take 1-2 weeks to put together, depending on the extent of the project. Once we completed and perfected our package, we presented it to our client and shared our ideas. (This is a bit of a nerve racking moment for us designers as this is where we lay it out and cross our fingers, kiss the rabbits foot, and hope that the client ultimately loves what we've created for them.) Thankfully, we read our client just right and executed the right design for her and her family.

As you'll see from the photo(s), we spec'd luxury vinyl plank flooring that is extremely durable (commercial grade), comfortable for standing for long periods of time, won't become scratched or dented with high traffic (kids & dogs & lots of hosting), and is easy to clean. From this floor, we were able to pull out colours and overall aesthetic for the space. We ran with cream antique cabinets, a deep luxurious island colour, a cream quartz countertop, a natural stone subway tile, and finished it off with oil rubbed bronze finishes & fixtures.

We also made selections for their 12 year old daughter's room, their 16 year old sons room, powder room, basement bathroom, mudroom and living room, including elevations.

Overall, ME Design was able to deliver rustic/country & bright vision for this clients space. The client knew her style but did not know how to make her style come to life throughout their renovation. The Design Concept Package was a great use of her time and budget as she now has a well laid out and detailed inspiration for her renovation.
